Job Summary:
Our thrift store is a new startup launched by MRC and we're building our team from the ground up. The Sales Associate will provide customer service, merchandising, and assistance with daily operations of MRC's thrift retail store. Ensuring a smooth, safe, and positive experience for donors. While serving as a mission ambassador and ensuring the store reflects the values and positive spirit of MRC.

 

Store Hours:
Store hours are subject to change at any time. Current hours are Monday - Saturday 10:00AM -7:00PM.



Shift Hours:
Shift hours can change or differ from below depending on business needs.
  • 5-6 Hours Per Shift
  • 9:30AM - 3:30PM
  • 2:00PM - 7:30PM


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serve customers and team members in a knowledgeable, respectful manner.
• Assist team in meeting sales goals through customer service and merchandising.
• Perform sales transactions accurately and in accordance with cash handling procedures.
• Follow all retail and safety guidelines and procedures.
Serve as the primary on-site representative for MRC, educating customers and donors on how their purchases support our mission.
Manage the daily receiving area, ensuring a smooth, safe, and positive experience for donors dropping off goods.
Ensure all donors are courteously greeted, provided with tax receipts (where applicable), and thanked for their contribution to the nonprofit's mission.
Direct the initial sorting process immediately upon receipt to quickly separate high value/sellable items from recycling/waste, maximizing efficiency and floor space.
Maintain organized and safe backroom operations.
Foster a positive, encouraging, and productive work environment that recognizes the value of volunteer service.

• Maintain a professional appearance
• Follow the guidance and any duties assigned by the Retail Supervisor/Manager.
Completes other miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Required Skills/Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Criminal records, driving and recipient rights screening required.
Valid Michigan driver's license, good driving record and the availability of licensed, insured vehicle for use on the job required.


Education and Experience:
Experience with cash management, POS systems, and inventory control
Minimum of 2 year of retail experience required, preferably in thrift store or nonprofit retail settings.
Experience working with or supporting individuals with disabilities or barriers to employment preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred


Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching required.
May occasionally require lifting up to 35 pounds.


Work Conditions:
Work is performed primarily indoors in a retail store environment.
Occasional exposure to dust and allergens from handling donated items.
May require occasional evening and weekend work.
• May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and parasites.
