Job Summary:
Our thrift store is a new startup launched by MRC and we're building our team from the ground up. As a Key Holder, you play an essential role in supporting the Store Manager and helping establish strong operational foundations. This position oversees daily operations during assigned shifts, ensures efficient task delegation, and maintains smooth workflows for both the sales floor and donation processing. Key Holders are also responsible for upholding our customer service standards and leading the team as the designated person-in-charge whenever management is absent.

Store Hours:
Store hours are subject to change at any time. Current hours are Monday – Saturday 10:00AM -7:00PM.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Act as the go-to contact during shifts for Thrift Store Associates, providing on-the-spot direction for tasks like sorting, pricing, and display maintenance.
• Act as the designated person-in-charge to open and close the store, including securing all entry points, and operating the alarm system.
• Ensure all team members follow established procedures for donation handling and merchandise rotation.

• Serve as the primary on-site representative for MRC, educating customers and donors on how their purchases support our mission.
• Manage the daily receiving area, ensuring a smooth, safe, and positive experience for donors dropping off goods.
• Ensure all donors are courteously greeted, provided with tax receipts (where applicable), and thanked for their contribution to the nonprofit's mission.
• Maintain possession and accountability for all store keys and codes.
• Lead by example in maintaining a fast-paced, productive work environment.
• Perform basic cash functions, including preparing cash drawers, executing mid-day cash drops
• Provide excellent customer service and promptly resolve minor customer complaints or operational issues, escalating complex matters to the Supervisor/Manager.
• Ensure store compliance with health, safety, and accessibility standards.
• Help train new associates on the Point of Sale (POS) system and customer service best practices.
• Ensure the sales floor is consistently clean, organized, and inviting.
• Maintain organized and safe backroom operations.
• Completes other miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Required Skills/Abilities:

• Valid Michigan driver's license, good driving record and the availability of licensed, insured vehicle for use on the job required.


Education and Experience:
•High School diploma or equivalent
•Minimum of 2-3 years of retail experience required, preferably in thrift store or nonprofit retail setting.
•Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage a small team and a large, diverse group of volunteers
•Experience working with or supporting individuals with disabilities or barriers to employment preferred.


Physical Requirements:
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching required.
• May occasionally require lifting up to 35 pounds.


Work Conditions:
• Work is performed primarily indoors in a retail store environment.
• Occasional exposure to dust and allergens from handling donated items.
• May require occasional evening and weekend work.
• May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and parasites.
