Job Summary:

The Workforce Development Supervisor provides direct oversight to ensure that all sites and job duties are properly staffed according to appropriate staff to client ratios to ensure successful opportunities and outcomes for individuals based on their strengths, interests and treatment plans. Ensuring accommodations and support for individuals to develop work skills, earn income, and take the next steps towards independence and community employment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction to assigned staff in Workforce Development. Assign responsibility and exact accountability for results.
  • Maintain an efficient and effective schedule for Workforce Development service delivery.
  • Ensure that clients are engaged in paid work, volunteer opportunities, structured vocational skill classes, and skills training that equips them with in-demand skills, industry recognized credentials, and experiences that lead to successful employment.
  • Recommend to McKercher Unit Manager new services and modify existing services to meet participant needs. Implement activities that promote community inclusion and participation, and productivity.
  • Manage resources and implement strategies to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Make recommendations for hire. Orient, train and develop staff positions within the departments. Develop and/or assist with updating job descriptions and perform regular staff evaluations.
  • Make recommendations for MRC policies or procedures for assigned areas.
  • Inform the McKercher Unit Manager of staff concerns, problems, issues and failure to obtain results and take corrective action in consultation with the McKercher Unit Manager and Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Measure results by determining performance indicators, determining critical data, and collecting data on a predetermined basis.
  • Assure that work is carried out in accordance with all applicable CARF, DCH, Medicaid, DOL, OSHA, ADA, and other local, state, and federal regulations and MRC policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with other units within the organization and other agencies that serve MRC clients. Advocate and problem solve to ensure that clients are moving towards community integration.
  • Complete incident and accident reports in a timely fashion and in accordance with agency policy.
  • Assure the rights of individuals served are protected in accordance with Michigan Mental Health Code and organization policy.
  • Actively support and be knowledgeable about 1) culturally competent, recovery-based practices, 2) person-centered planning as a shared decision-making process with the individual who defines his or her own life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals and 3) a trauma informed culture to aid clients in their recovery process.
  • Supervise data collection and reporting systems by monitoring client attendance and participation on daily production sheets. Ensure accurate data entry, reporting and billing.
  • Ensure the safety of the clients, staff, and the public in all service delivery activities.
  • Oversee clients job assignments and activities; ensuring clients receive the necessary accommodations and support to be successful.
  • Provide collaboration and oversight for community volunteer sites in the community. Ensure staff are properly trained at each site to be able to provide the individuals we serve with encouragement, support, and safety.
  • In collaboration with staff, ensure proper medication administration is occurring in accordance with the organization's policy and procedures.
  • Provide proper communication, assistance, and scheduling with production jobs. Ensuring they are completed in a timely manner and within quality standards in collaboration with the Facilities and Production Manager and McKercher Unit Manager.
  • Assist the McKercher Unit Manager and Workforce Development and Community Employment Director with long-range planning and goal setting for the organization, working toward the achievement of overall agency goals.
  • Assist with providing implementation for overall agency activities and special projects.
  • Completes other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, problem solving, planning and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge or lived experiences with behavioral and mental health system are strongly desired.
  • Written communication skills sufficient to write clinical service plans, goals and objectives.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • Valid Michigan driver's license, good driving record required and the availability of licensed, insured, reliable vehicle for use on the job.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required or minimum 5 years related experience providing services to individuals with disabilities.
  • One year's supervisory experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Physical ability to squat, reach, lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
  • Physical ability to view and operate a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to meet intervention certification requirements.
  • Ability to meet CPR and first aid requirements.

Work Conditions:

  • Office and production environment along with travel in the community
  • Work hours occasionally involve evening hours.
